The Ijsselmeer; for those who enjoy being out on the open water.

Open water enthusiasts can head off to the Ijsselmeer where the expanse of water is ideal for longer sailing trips. The shallows and channels are clearly marked and there are numerous anchorages. The IJsselmeer is an area of rich natural beauty. The surrounding landscape is open and green with lofty skies. The IJsselmeer was created by sectioning off part of the Zuiderzee and the sea is choppy in windy conditions.

Lemmer Friesland

The Frisian lakes
The Frisian lakes are an ideal starting point for wonderful sailing trips and for visiting towns and villages and other places of interest. You can plan your route to take in the most attractive places Friesland has to offer. Every region, town or village has its own character and atmosphere. There are plenty of mooring places and children will have the time of their lives running about on the well-maintained shoreline. Friesland is a real water province with numerous sailing routes. As you sail across the various lakes you will be treated to magnificent views of the typical wide-open Frisian landscape. It is important that you have a yachting chart to hand because the waters are not always deep enough for cabin sailing boats.

The Wadden Sea
The IJsselmeer dam in the North separates the IJsselmeer from the Wadden Sea. For many water sport enthusiasts it constitutes a dilemma. Beyond the dyke is a different salt water sailing area, namely the sea. The tidal waters of the Wadden Sea are suitable only for experienced sailors. If, for example, you wish to visit the islands of Texel, Vlieland and Terschelling you can sail via the locks at Den Oever or Kornwerderzand. These Wadden Islands are full of life, with spectacular scenery, plenty of cultural and sporting activities and charming cafes and restaurants. Visitors to the islands will find peace and quiet, beaches and dunes, stunning flora and fauna, lofty skies and kilometre-long views across the North and Wadden Seas.
